What Are the Potential Benefits of PHP Treatment for Mental Health?

Many mental health treatment options are available nowadays. While more severe cases require inpatient programs, many achieve sustainable sobriety through partial hospitalization. A partial hospitalization program (PHP) can be an effective way for individuals to seek treatment while maintaining autonomy over their personal lives. Of course, with so many treatment options available, it's challenging for clients to know which program is best for them. However, understanding the benefits of PHP treatment can help you make an informed decision regarding your addiction treatment

We at West Coast Recovery Centers believe there's no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to treating addiction and mental health. Thus, we focus on providing clients with an individualized treatment plan that helps them heal and recover from addiction and mental health conditions. Understanding Your Struggles With Mental Health

The first step toward mental health treatment is recognizing and understanding that there's a problem. It's not uncommon for individuals struggling with a mental health condition to not realize they're struggling. Many often deny these struggles, too. The reality is a person can't seek treatment until they're ready to accept and seek treatment for themselves.

Of course, there are things people can do to better understand their struggles with mental health. This may include speaking to their primary care physician, seeking counsel from a mental health professional, or researching local resources. Unfortunately, in this day and age of information, there is a lot of misinformation out there. Nevertheless, there are professionals, communities, and organizations that can help you as you embark on your mental health recovery journey.

The Dangers of Untreated Mental Health Conditions

Mental health conditions can wreak havoc when left untreated. The dangers and risks associated with untreated mental health shouldn't be taken lightly. They can lead to:

  • The development of further mental health complications
  • Physical health issues, such as a weakened immune system, heart disease, high blood pressure
  • Substance use, which can quickly lead to substance use disorder (SUD)

These are just a few of the risks associated with untreated mental illness. So, with these risks in mind, let's consider some of the potential treatment options individuals can access.

Mental Health Treatment Options

Treatment for a mental health condition is most effective when tailored to each client. It's also most effective when it consists of a combination of treatment modalities and holistic practices, thus providing a whole-person approach to care. With that in mind, some of your options for mental health treatment include:

  • Medications such as antidepressants, mood stabilizers, or stimulants to reduce the intensity of symptoms
  • Psychotherapy to help clients identify, process, and overcome problematic thoughts, emotions, and behaviors
  • Alternative practices like yoga, meditation, acupuncture, creative expression, and other mindfulness-based practices to promote whole-person healing

Treatment options such as these can be implemented in many settings. That includes a variety of programs, including inpatient residential facilities or outpatient programs. Our focus today is partial hospitalization.

What Is PHP Treatment?

PHP treatment is a type of intensive outpatient program. It provides more intense treatment than a standard outpatient program without requiring clients to live in the facility. Of course, programs vary from one facility or organization to the next. Nevertheless, this alternative to intensive psychiatric care can provide clients with many benefits.

What Are the Benefits of Seeking PHP Treatment?

The most significant benefit of PHP treatment is that it provides clients with balance and flexibility. Individuals can obtain an intense level of treatment without having to leave their families or jobs and without losing autonomy. Other benefits include:

  • Cost-effectiveness, especially when compared to inpatient programs
  • The opportunity to connect with individuals going through similar experiences
  • Increased independence, which can increase confidence and improve recovery outcomes
  • The ability to maintain daily responsibilities while prioritizing wellness
  • Continuing care services to help people transition out of a program
  • Friends, family, and loved ones can be easily involved in the recovery journey and process
  • Programming can be tailored to fit each client's unique needs

  • In-person sessions, including individual weekly sessions and group therapy daily
  • Weekly case management sessions as needed

Nowadays, people have a variety of treatment options available to them when struggling with their mental health. For some, seeing a therapist on a regular basis is enough to keep themselves healthy. However, others may require a more intense treatment option, especially if a mental health condition is left untreated for an extended period of time. In those instances, individuals should consider a partial hospitalization program (PHP). PHP treatment is more intense than weekly therapy sessions but doesn't require an inpatient stay like other intense programs, making it the perfect fit for those seeking help but wanting to keep balance and autonomy in their lives. Call (760) 492-6509 to learn more about our West Coast Recovery Center's PHP today.

We work with most major insurance companies on an in-network basis.
