PTSD Causes and Symptoms

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, can result when a person experiences a terrifying or stressful event. This mental health condition can stem from situations such as accidents, disasters, violence, and assault.

Even when the traumatic event is over, it can have a strong influence on your life. Vivid flashbacks and nightmares are common, and they can be extremely distressing as you feel like you are reliving the event. Treatment is imperative to help combat these symptoms so you can feel safe again in your everyday life.

Available Treatment

At West Coast Recovery Centers, our treatment approach to PTSD combines evidence-based practices with holistic treatment options in order to help clients combat mental health symptoms and find long-term relief.

Traditional treatment

  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT): ACT treatment teaches mindfulness and helps you to take action toward things that are important to you.

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): This form of therapy helps you to identify and alter unhelpful thoughts and behaviors in order to improve well-being.

  • Process groups: Process groups allow you to explore your thoughts, experiences, and emotions while surrounded by others who are experiencing similar situations.

  • Seeking Safety (SS): PTSD can co-occur with a substance use disorder, and Seeking Safety is a model of therapy designed to treat both conditions.

  • Trauma-informed therapy: Our compassionate team can help you work through the effects of trauma in a safe setting.

Dual Diagnosis Program Options

We recognize the connection between mental health and addiction. PTSD regularly co-occurs with a substance use disorder, as individuals often turn to substances to cope with the effects of trauma.

Our dual diagnosis program options can treat both issues at the same time, allowing you to receive adequate treatment without sidelining one condition. With PHP and IOP options available, you will be able to identify and confront causes as you work toward lasting recovery.
