Anxiety Treatment in San Diego, California

Anxiety disorders are mental health conditions that extend far beyond occasional worry, stress, or fear. Anxiety can leave you in an extreme state of panic, often leading to avoidance of potentially triggering situations, extreme distress, and even panic attacks.

Our compassionate team at West Coast Recovery Centers offers personalized anxiety treatment, using a collaborative approach to help you find mental and physical healing and learn how to manage your anxiety symptoms. Through therapy, lifestyle adjustments, and coping skills, clients can take control of their anxiety and find relief.

Anxiety Symptoms

Anxiety can be triggered by a wide range of factors. Common causes of anxiety include lifestyle changes, family history, social situations, and medical issues.

Anxiety is felt both physically and mentally, and typical symptoms include:

  • An increase in heart rate

  • Avoidance of fear-inducing situations/things

  • Breathing issues

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Feelings of impending doom or danger

  • Issues with sleep

  • Nervousness

  • Shaking or sweating

  • Stomach issues

  • Weakness or exhaustion

Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety can manifest in various ways, such as:

  • Agoraphobia: This condition causes fear and avoidance of situations that could cause you to panic, often leaving you feeling trapped.
  • Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD): Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) refers to worry and anxiety that is both persistent and excessive. It can relate to events, activities, or ordinary issues, and the level of worry is disproportionate to the situation.

  • Medical anxiety: Feelings of intense panic and anxiety can result from a physical health issue.

  • Panic disorder: This involves recurring episodes of intense terror or fear that reach a peak very quickly, leading to panic attacks.

  • Social anxiety disorder (social phobia): Social anxiety is marked by intense fear and avoidance of social situations, often stemming from insecurity or worry of judgment.

  • Specific phobias: Some people have intense feelings of anxiety about a specific situation or object that others might view as ordinary.

Our Mental Health Programs

Some individuals require more intensive support than weekly therapy. At West Coast Recovery Centers, our programs are crafted for those battling mental illness who would benefit from higher levels of structure and support. Two different program levels are available depending on symptom severity.

Partial-Hospitalization Program

Partial hospitalization program (PHP) services occur from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday. This timing allows clients to experience structure and care throughout their days while still getting to sleep at home after treatment ends in the evening.

PHP services consist of weekly individual therapy, daily group therapy, family and couples therapy options, weekly case management sessions (when appropriate), and help with medication management.

Intensive Outpatient Program

Intensive outpatient program (IOP) services provide less intensive support than PHP services while still offering daily structure and mental health guidance and care.

In our IOP services, clients will have the same options for therapy, necessary case management, and medication management as PHP services; however, the hours of treatment are from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday. Clients can use the rest of their day to apply the skills they have learned in treatment in their everyday lives.

Dual Diagnosis Program Options

We understand that there is often a correlation between mental health conditions and addiction issues. In some cases, those with anxiety turn to substances in attempts to escape their symptoms, and in others, anxiety is brought on by the use of substances. If you suffer from a dual diagnosis, we can treat both issues at the same time.

Both PHP and IOP services are available at West Coast Recovery Centers. Clients can identify the root cause of issues, develop coping skills, and make steps toward full recovery.
